KLOTZ AIS streamlines touring connections from stagebox to loudspeaker

Text and Photos: Klotz

Three new solutions from German manufacturer KLOTZ AIS address different stages of the live-audio signal chain: transformer-isolated signal distribution, flexible multicore breakouts and simplified loudspeaker cabling. Designed for demanding touring workflows, the additions aim to reduce patching complexity while keeping large systems easy to deploy and troubleshoot.

MIS Transformer Splitters: up to 64 channels, isolated

The new 19-inch MIS Transformer Splitters come in 48- and 64-channel versions, with two distribution layouts. The MS_XFRFMT uses a 1:1+2 configuration and adds four parallel RMP inputs on the front panel for integration with multichannel stageboxes. The MS_XFRMT offers a 1:2+2 configuration for setups requiring more isolated feeds.

Gold-plated XLR input contacts feed transformer-isolated SPLIT outputs, helping prevent ground loops, while a transformer-free DIRECT path preserves 48V phantom power. Rear-panel 150-pin RMP connectors are compatible with MIL-C-5015-based systems, including LK, Tourline and CIRLK. KLOTZ specifies less than 1% distortion at input levels up to +6 dBu. The powder-coated aluminium chassis is built for repeated touring use.

MIS SUB Patchboxes: flexible analogue and AES/EBU breakouts

Also joining the 19-inch MIS family, the SUB Patchboxes handle 48 to 64 channels of analogue or AES/EBU digital audio. Four front-panel RMP female connectors interface with compatible multicore stagebox systems, while XLR male breakout tails are organised in groups of 8, 12 or 16 channels.

Available with 80 cm or 150 cm splices, the units feature individually shielded cables, strain relief and colour-coded, laser-engraved channel identification — details intended to accelerate patching and reduce mistakes on busy stages or in studios.

SpeakerLink: four loudspeaker channels over one multicore

SpeakerLink tackles the amplifier-to-stage connection. A box positioned behind the amplifiers combines up to four loudspeaker channels onto an eight-pole speakON connector; a single loudspeaker multicore carries them to a second box, which breaks them out as channels A, B, C and D or as A/B and C/D pairs.

Each box provides male and female eight-pole speakON connections plus six four-pole male connectors, following a connection convention used by systems such as d&b. A laser-engraved wiring diagram aids identification. The 1.5 mm aluminium enclosure includes an M10 rigging thread, safety attachment points and non-slip feet.

The MIS units are assembled and tested in Germany. Together, the three launches offer practical ways to simplify wiring, signal distribution and system deployment without sacrificing touring-grade construction.
