Ayrton unveils Falconer, a semi-automated followspot station capable of controlling an unlimited number of fixtures from any manufacturer from a single station, with unprecedented aiming precision and customisation.
At PLASA, on the Ambersphere stand (Ayrton’s UK distributor), we discovered “The Falconer”, a new followspot station designed to optimise the way fixtures are controlled to track performers on stages and in venues, arenas or stadiums. This control station stands out for its versatility and ease of use.
Falconer’s key features
Falconer is an open system compatible with fixtures from any manufacturer, provided they are fitted with an Ayrton camera module. This means either using an EagleStrike profile equipped with a dedicated camera, or opting for the forthcoming Horus, which will feature a camera integrated into a MagicDot chassis. The system can control an unlimited number of fixtures, but to prevent the system from slowing down, Ayrton recommends limiting it to 36 fixtures active simultaneously. It can be configured either “one-to-one”, in other words one station controlling one fixture, or “one-to-many”.
It is fully programmable. Any function can be assigned to any button, without limitation. All settings can also be adjusted to suit the operator’s preferences from the sensitivity of pan and tilt movements, which can be set to respond very slowly or very quickly, to the position of the handles for comfortable operation whether standing or seated. Mounted on a broadcast camera fluid head, the system provides smooth movement and excellent responsiveness. Its interactive touchscreen and menu have been designed to make operation as straightforward as possible.

Falconer also allows the tracking reticle to be precisely adjusted independently of the centre of the beam, enabling the operator to choose exactly where to aim on the target. The Ayrton Falconer is supplied as a complete system in a flight case, ready for assembly.
