The Italian manufacturer’s Arolla Aqua family now includes new IP66-rated models, with the arrival of the Arolla Aqua LT (long throw), the Aqua FS (Follow Spot) and the Aqua Wash HC. Giovani Zucchinali, Claypaky Product Manager, also presents the lamp-based Ultimo Hybrid.

Arolla Aqua LT et FS

Just over two years after the launch of the series, the Arolla Aqua family grows to include the new LT model and its LT FS variant! The new fixture is visually almost identical to the first version, but just a few centimetres longer. It uses the same light source, a 900 W, 7000 K white LED engine.

The latest additions to the Arolla family, the FS (Follow Spot) version of the Aqua LT on the left and the Arolla Aqua Wash HC on the right..

LT stands for ‘Long-Throw’, meaning enhanced light output. To achieve this, the entire optical path has been redesigned, with a complete change of lenses. As a result, the zoom range has been increased slightly, with a variable aperture from 4° to 52°.
This new product also benefits from an improvement to the pan/tilt system, which now incorporates an absolute positioning function, for greater precision and less movement when resetting the fixture.
As for movement, the Arolla Aqua LT has a new braking system that applies a high level of resistance to movement on the yoke axes when the unit is switched off.

The connectors on the side of the Arolla Aqua FS head receive the signal from a camera.

The main functions are similar to those of the first-generation Arolla Aqua in terms of colour mixing, gobos and effects. However, the LT’s latest surprise is that it now boasts the ‘SunSafe Protection System’, which enables the fixture to avoid direct sunlight through the lens, resulting in automatic repositioning, particularly when the device is not receiving a control signal.

This is useful for preventing damage to internal components or to the camera that is fitted to the FS (Follow Spot) version. This version is equipped with external sockets for video cameras, which means it has a USB port and an ethernet port on the side of the head. This makes it ‘follow spot ready’ – ready to be employed as a remote follow spot.

Arolla Aqua Wash HC

Next up is the Arolla Aqua Wash HC, which also has a clean PC-type lens. At the base of the head is a powerful 960 W (6000 K) LED source delivering 28,000 lumens of flux and equipped with a minus-green management system or ‘TrueCurve’ function, a major new feature on this luminaire.
The name HC stands for High CRI, indicating a colour rendering index of up to 95. The fixture features a particularly precise CMY colour mixing system, supplemented by a variable CTO up to 2700 K, and a 6° to 47° motorised zoom, and a frost that can open the field to a wash of more than 60°. Finally, a system of four shutters on two focal planes is located in the head of the fixture.

Ultimo Hybrid

The Ultimo Hybrid adopts the same look, but incorporates a 550 W short-arc lamp, ideal for beam effects.

Ultimo Hybrid is the most advanced hybrid fixture in the Claypaky range. Hybrid because it is equally at home in Beam or Spot mode, as well as in Profile or Wash mode. It uses a 550 W Philips MSD Platinum 500L Flex lamp, which has a short arc to deliver a high-impact beam. Its variable zoom features two ranges of beam divergence, depending on the mode selected, so it can generate a tight beam down to 2° as well as a spot beam up to 52°.

Ultimo Hybrid incorporates a 60° rotating framing module, each shutter of which can be fully closed. Then there are two gobo wheels designed for Beam or Spot mode, an animation wheel, an iris, two rotating prisms with four and eight facets, CMY colour mixing supplemented with a variable CTO, a wheel of 18 well-chosen static colours and a progressive frost.
This luminaire also features an absolute positioning system and an IP66 rating (as do all the fixtures featured in this article).
