Ayrton EagleStrike: LED Profile, IP65, ultra-powerful and versatile

Text & photos: Jérôme Boutié – Video: Allison Cussigh

Ayrton introduces a Profile designed to delight users in need of a highly powerful and versatile fixture, capable of producing wide effect projections as well as a “cannonball” type beam, or even servo-controlled followspot operation. Alain René Lantelme, Deputy Managing Director of Axente, presents the unit while also revisiting the very compact MagicDot Neo.

Ayrton’s latest release: the EagleStrike and its beautiful 27 cm lens!

It certainly doesn’t go unnoticed and for good reason! With its 27 cm diameter lens, the EagleStrike makes a strong visual statement. Slightly larger than the laser-source Mamba, this new IP65-rated fixture (like all new Ayrton products) clearly signals that high lumen output is on the agenda. On paper, the specifications are nothing short of impressive.

Featuring a neutral white LED source (6,500 K) rated at 1,200 W, this 54 kg powerhouse delivers an impressive 55,000 lumens and 100,000 lux at 10 m. Its raw light output, combined with a zoom range from 2.9° to 43°, as well as an optional NDI camera module, allows it to be instantly transformed into a powerful remotely operated followspot.

Conversely, the EagleStrike is equally at ease in more graphic applications thanks to its wide array of onboard modules. Its advanced CMY trichromatic color mixing system is complemented by a variable CTO, a wheel with six additional filters, and a second wheel featuring CRI correction filters or minus green.

Two rotating gobo wheels coexist with an animation wheel, two combinable rotating prisms, as well as progressive frost and an iris. Naturally, a motorized framing shutter module is included almost a given in a fixture of this category and this is indeed the case here.

Despite being equipped with a very powerful LED engine, the EagleStrike features several modes designed to minimize noise output, particularly for more “theatrical” applications. The “Super Silence” mode reduces the sound level meter reading to 33.5 dB in static operation, at the cost of reduced source power.

Size comparison to give an idea of scale, with the EagleStrike on the left and the laser-source Mamba on the right.

For control, users can choose between DMX-RDM in two modes (44 and 66 channels), wireless control via an integrated CRMX LumenRadio TiMo module (standard, not optional!), or the classic Ethernet protocols Art-Net and sACN.
