Just a few months after launching the 350 W laser-source RawBeam, Ayrton introduces Naja, equipped with the same laser source. While at first glance these two fixtures may appear to compete in the same arena, Naja is actually designed for extreme long-range applications, with an exceptional zoom that narrows down to 0.6°. SoundLightUp has awarded it an Innovation Award.
Naja is an IP65-rated, ultra-powerful fixture packed with a comprehensive arsenal of features, delivering an extraordinary level of performance in a remarkably compact format.
Designed for long-range applications, it produces spectacular brightness. Its imposing 200 mm front lens generates a perfectly uniform 0.6° beam, while its 35:1 zoom ratio provides a beam spread ranging from 0.6° to 21°. Naja produces a 9,000 K metallic white light and an illuminance of 1.84 million lux at 10 metres. More than enough to animate the vast spaces of the world’s largest stadiums – thanks also to its IP65 rating – or create a show in the immensity of the desert.

“Naja is not an answer to RawBeam,” explains Yvan Peard, Ayrton designer. Their respective zoom ranges are intended for different applications. RawBeam’s zoom extends from 1.1° to 45°, whereas Naja is an Ultra Beam with a 0.6°–21° zoom. At a distance of 1 km, RawBeam’s beam has a diameter of around 20 m, whereas Naja’s beam, at its tightest setting, measures 10 m in diameter, allowing it to retain much greater contrast over longer distances.
“Naja is a modern version of Cobra, which we launched almost five years ago, and the new generation of phosphor laser sources has enabled us to develop a fixture with almost the same zoom range, but with a beam that is more uniform, consistent from one fixture to another, and higher in contrast. It is the most sophisticated fixture Ayrton has ever created.”
He continues: “When you realise that the zoom lens travels through the entire fixture in less than a second, pushing past all the prisms and moving almost right up against the front lens, it is quite extraordinary. When you watch it happen, you know something special is going on, because there are ten prisms in its path, and they all move out of the way to let the lens through and achieve maximum zoom performance.”
Naja is aimed at beam battles between towers located 4 or 5 kilometres apart in Dubai or the United Arab Emirates… those magnificent laser shows that can be seen in the desert or in large theme parks.
Naja’s colour section is even more comprehensive. Its high-speed, disc-based CMY colour-mixing system is complemented by two colour wheels:
– The first wheel features 15 complementary colours, 2 multicolour filters and 2 minus-green correction filters;
– A second wheel incorporates progressive CTO along with 3 RGB + CMY multicolour animation sections.
Naja also features a comprehensive set of graphic tools comprising 92 metal gobos – 12 rotating and 80 fixed – distributed across two wheels, allowing its beam to be sculpted with extreme precision. These gobos can be combined with two levels of three rotating prisms, opening up a multitude of image-multiplication effects.
Even more impressively, these effects can be combined with two sets of two combinable prisms, making it possible to create an endless variety of volumetric effects. A light frost and a heavy frost complete the creative palette.
Naja is also equipped with Ayrton’s continuous Pan & Tilt rotation system, together with a new “Short Cut” function that further expands the possibilities for creating effects.
It adopts the same format as Rivale, while keeping its weight down to 31.5 kg. Lightweight, robust and quiet, Naja benefits from an entirely new cooling system specially developed for this laser light source.
