The Polish brand’s new versatile and feature-packed fixture has made quite a splash, winning an SLU Innovation Award. Lukasz Sztejna, Head of R&D at Portman, tells us all about it in this video.
“It’s very difficult to describe Omniray in a single word,” says Lukasz, and he is right! A genuinely innovative product on many levels, the first thing that catches our eye (as we’ve come to expect from Portman) is its looks. Visually, it’s like a skilfully restyled, oversized PAR. It’s almost like a piece of decor that sits proudly on a piece of designer furniture.

This reflects a real desire on the part of the company to make the look part of the product’s DNA. Several magnetic covers are available to personalise its visual character to your taste, as well. As for the light, the fixture is divided into two sources with very distinct functions. The first is the wash light.
A powerful source of 22 × 20 W RGBWAL LEDs (for a total of 440 W) offers both very punchy and very controlled colour layering effects over a field aperture of around 85°, while also providing a light that can be modelled as desired using the wide range of colours available from the LEDs in the source.
The colour rendering of the Omniray reaches an impressive CRI of 95. The fixture’s software offers several dimming curves and a very effective mode for emulating a tungsten blinder.

At low levels, the decorative effect emanating from its large reflector is also very attractive. At the centre of the luminaire, a small clear lens is installed in front of a second module of 40 W RGBW LEDs, generating a single central beam with a tight divergence of 3.8°. This combination of two sources is quite unique
With a bit of haze, it’s easy to see the Omniray’s real potential. Various magnetically-attached filters can be fitted in front of the output – like a frost filter to modify the angle of the wash, or simply to change the look, as mentioned above – all of which can be layered one on top of the other in ‘sandwich’ mode.
In addition, the Omniray is IP65-rated. It can be fitted with an optional CRMX wireless DMX module, as well. Dominik Zimakowski, CEO of Portman, tells us also that the yoke supporting the fixture is equipped with a notch system to better manage tilt in 5° steps.
This creative combination earned the Omniray an SLU Innovation Award! The Omniray, which will be available for delivery very soon, is priced at €1,300 excluding tax (MSRP).
